Cliff Chiang

Today I wanted to spotlight one of my favorite artists that's currently hard at work making amazing art.  And who should be up today but Cliff Chiang, the fabulous artists behind DC's current run on Wonder Woman (which is awesome by the way!).  Cliff's work is a beautiful balance of classic line-work with a contemporary dynamism that makes his style right for almost anything.

Chiang has been active for quite some time, mostly doing artwork for DC comics. Like most standout artists, he's typically on cover duty.  So there may be an eye-catching cover you've seen on the stand that's been drawn by this guy here.  The problem with being on cover duty is that you don't get the chance to do many interiors.
Cover art duty aside, Chiang has been busy working on the fabulous Wonder Woman run currently being produced with Brian Azzarello writing.  I had never been interested in the character until I saw Chiang's artwork on the cover and, thankfully, on the inside too.   He has so much confidence in his work, which speaks to him taking his job seriously.
He's also an artist who knows how to have fun.
What I want to focus the rest of my excitement for Cliff Chiang's art on his great character design.  When they relaunched Wonder Woman, Cliff was charged with redesigning the look of the character along with her world.  And I love it.  In particular, I love the look he created for all the Greek gods.  Take a look at her armor.  And that beastly guy with the flamey hands and leg braces... that's Hephaestus. The one next to him is Eros with his love-pistols.
Poseidon, the kcrazy Octofish!
Apollo is that deep purple guy, and the woman next to him at the top is a Greek sculpture inspired Artemis.
Hades is that creepy kid with candle head.  And that dude in the track suit with the band-aid is Wonder Woman's half-brother Lennox.
Here we have Herme, a sort of creepy half-man half-bird.
Orion!  Great adjustments to Kirby's original design.
New Genesis is also given a Chiang change.
And because I think it's important, here are some interiors.
 See you soon!
