Life of PI

First off, yes, I know I didn't do anything for wednesday... oh. you didn't ask? Oh, well the other thing is, yes, I know the Life of Pi does not just focus on Hinduism, but in fact makes a point of celebrating the sameness of three major religions (ie Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity), and using a vague symbol of Hinduism to represent this post does misrepresent it slightly.  I know, but i hadn't made the Hindu one yet, and I took this as an opportunity.

Though things like the Oscars are of only a little interest to me, I thought I could use my two inch soapbox here to show my support for the film based on the Yann Martel novel of the same name.  Ang Lee should at least win for Cinematography.  I didn't see a prettier film all year.  I enjoyed the mystical visuals Lee provided to make the strange story into something magical.  I also love its unifying theme, there's not enough of that in movies as far as I'm concerned..  I say, and will always say, read the book, it's great.  See the movie too, it's something wonderful to see.
Plus, Tigers are awesome!

Video Games of Biblical Proportions!

Coming in at just under the wire, I have a TGIF post for everyone this Friday.  While most video games exist in the secular world, there is a small collection of faith based Video Games out there that, among other things, are hilarious.
The first batch comes, thankfully from the Angry Video Game Nerd.  Be warned, he swears... ALOT.
Here's some more that he reviewed for us.
And his latest hits.
There are also a few Classy Games on the Internet.
Run, Jesus Run! is a simple flash game that has a hilariously easy set of controls.
Journey of Jesus: The Calling is a creepy looking Facebook game that goes over the life and times of everybody's favorite Nazarene.

And if you're a fan of convert or die ideologies, there is of course the PC games based upon the "Left Behind Series of books.
And for something completely fake!

Have a nice weekend!

The Words of Bruce Lee

Known internationally as a badass, Bruce Lee was also a spiritually minded man as well.  Today I thought I would share a few favorite words he uttered, though some are just some favorites of his that some one else said.

Be Water.
The finger pointing to the moon is not the moon.
The Philosophy of martial arts.

Creators: Mel Brooks

Creators

A growing list of inspirational artists, writers, poets, filmmakers, and creatives.

Mel Brooks

Melvin James Kaminsky is one funny guy.  He's the kind of funny guy that I would want to be: someone who can effortlessly put a smile on your face.  And if you google him, it's nearly impossible to find a picture of him where he isn't smiling.  He's won an Emmy, a Tony, a Grammy, and an Oscar through his career.  His life of comedy began in standup, and then like so many others went into comedy writing.  From there, he developed the improv act The 2000 year old man with fellow comedian Carl Riener, and developed the pilot for Get Smart before braking into movies.
Mel has created some of my favorite comedies, and with the amount of awards and honors he's racked up, I'm sure they're some of yours too.
Space Balls (1987):
The beginning of my love affair with Mel came in the year of my birth.  Space Balls was probably the first movie that made me laugh so hard I hurt.  The scene in question, EVERY one with Rick Moranis.  This is the essential send up to Star Wars.  All others are crap in comparison.
Young Frankenstein (1974)
Hello Handsome!  Young Frankenstein is certainly a classic in comedy by anyone's standards.  It's one of those movies that people look at you funny if you say you haven't seen it.  As a kid I loved "Put'n on the Ritz" and the catapulted girl to no end.  For the rest of my life, I will expect to hear horses whinny when Frau Blücher is spoken.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)
My favorite rendition of the Robin Hood story on film.  It's a hilarious parody of Errol Flynn's The Adventures of Robin hood and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  It has great jokes, Dave Chappelle, Sir Jean Luc Richard, and "Unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak in an english accent."
Blazing Saddles (1974)
A beautiful movie about race relations.  "Where all the white women at?"
History of the World Part 1 (1981)
Eagerly awaiting the follow up, History of the World Part 1 is a great excuse to load a movie with anachronisms, sight-gags, and subject specific jokes.  My affection for this movie is likened to my affection for "saucy bernaise," "Count De Money," "nvts," Jesus Jokes, and the greatest dance number inspired by the Spainish Inquisition:

Honorable mention to both versions of The Producers.

He was also Big Weld in Robots.  Class act.
Get to know him if you don't already.

Penn and Teller

They may be magicians, but they're people too.  And these people have opinions.  They air their ideas typically on a show they used to call Bullsh!t, and they've continued that onto the internets.  Granted it IS Penn Jilette doing most of the talking, but I think its about both of them.
Here's a new view.

Have Fun this weekend.
